Fulshear-  ( June 28)  The  Women 's Southwest  Basketball League got its feet wet and  tested the waters of a rebranding  of a legendary basketball league, which brought out the best   in Women's Minor League basketball from 2000 to 2006

New WSBL CFO  and  GM/Head Coach Michael Lewis of the Texas Lady Flames, one of the teams to play in the teams in league's inaugural season next June,  stated,  " We had two more teams set to play, but many events caused them not to participate, which we had left us with a best-of-three championship series between the Lady Flames and th CTX Lady Warriors out of Fort Hood/Killeen Texas.

The games were very competitive, and the Lady Warriors brought a young, scrappy, and athletic full squad, and the Lady Flames only had 5 players.  In Game One, the Lady Flames got off to a hot start with solid defense led by the guard combo of Tae Jordan and Queshaya Hammon, who, along with the exhausted frontcourt of Uchechi Ahaiwe, Kelci McHenry, and Ariel Sherrard,  showed heart and aggressiveness on offense and solid defense and withstood a swarming Lady Warriors run led by Center  Malyasia Mc Henry. Who had 18 points and 11 rebounds to win game 1, 51-46. Jordan paced Lady Flames with 14 points and 11 steals, while Ahaiwe led the team in scoring and had the team's first double-double with 17 points and 17 rebounds.  Sherrard added 15 points and added 11 rebounds, Kelci McHenry also had 10 rebounds, while Hammon added 12 assists.

In Game 2, the Lady Warriors, who were paced by Antoniette Spicer and Malyasia Mc Henry who combined for 22 of the teams 42 points could not overcome hot shooting from Tae Jordan who led the Lady Flames with 22 and Queshaya Hammon who added 12 points as the Lady Flames defeated the Lady Warriors 49-42 to win the WSBL Women's Open Classic.

On his team's play and the event, Lewis stated,  " We have injured players, and the Flames Five stepped up today, and for  the classic, it did not go as planned, but it gives the league a building block towards next season," he added
